Buy or Rent?
We are going to analyze whether it is more economical to
take out a mortgage to buy a home (and
live in it) or to rent an apartment/house in Hawaii. Each one of you should
create a personalized spreadsheet that is tailored to your particular housing
needs.
1. Conceptualizing the computational problem (modeling)
- How do we quantify economical?
- What are we comparing? How?
2. Acquiring the data
- What information do we need?
- Where can we get those information? Or can we get raw data to compute the
required information?
- What is the schema of the data ? What do the fields mean ?
- How do we compute those required information?
3. Organizing the code
- How do we structure the spreadsheet so that it is general?
- What parts of the computation should be parametrized?
